Floating school In Lagos

Makoko Floating school
This is a school in the Makoko community, a slum built on stilts in the Lagos Lagoon off the coast of Nigeria. The three-story Makoko Floating School, designed by Nigerian architect KunlĂ© Adeyemi, has classrooms and a playground, and when classes are out, the first floor serves as a town square where the fishermen mend their nets and floating shopkeepers dock their boats. Photographer Iwan Baan shares hundreds of photos like this one in his TED Talk, detailing how people build homes in unlikely places and celebrating humanity’s ability to survive and make a home – anywhere.
